A former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mike Igini in Akwa Ibom has expressed doubt that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failed to function during the presidential election held on February 15.

VerseNews Nigeria reported that INEC during the presidential election in a statement said there were glitches on the BVAS which consequently delayed the voting process in many polling units.

This Online News Media also observed that the Commission settled to manuel collation of the election results after the BVAS couldn’t function again.

The manual collation of the election results was opposed by many political parties and Nigerians on the ground that it lacks credibility, transperancecy and contradicts the rules and regulations as stipulated in the Electoral Act 2022.

Reacting to the claims by INEC that the BVAS failed to function, Mike in an interview with ‘Channel TV’ said it is impossible for the BVAS to fail at such time in the election.

He argued that the BVAS functioned adding that any form of failure must have been triggered by someone at the system’s server.

“The BVAS as I said and I will repeat and reiterate here, that the BVAS functioned, the BVAS delivered, the BVAS won.”

“It’s grossly incorrect to suggest that BVAS failed at the just concluded presidential election. The technology delivered by putting an end to the invidious figures that have been posted in several parts of the country over different election cycles,” he said.
