Sixty-nine individuals who were apprehended during a gay wedding ceremony in Ekpan Community, Uvwie Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta, have been released on bail.

VerseNews reports that their lawyer, Ochuko Ohimor, revealed that each suspect was granted bail with a sum of ₦500,000 and required two sureties residing within the Effurun jurisdiction of the Court.

Despite opposition from the police prosecutor, Vincent Orarumen, who argued against the bail condition, the defense lawyer maintained that the alleged crime was not a capital offense.

The suspects were initially arrested on August 27 during a “all white party” gay wedding ceremony and were subsequently paraded before the media on August 29 by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass.

The CP vowed to prosecute them in accordance with Nigeria’s Anti-Gay Law, which prohibits same-sex marriage in the country, while emphasizing that they would be charged in court, though they are presumed innocent until proven otherwise by a competent court.
