The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the Nigerian government’s recently published terrorism sponsors list, calling it a “theatre of absurdity” and an attempt to mislead both citizens and the international community.

In a press statement issued on April 13, 2026, IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the list was a “laughable and intellectually bankrupt exercise” designed to distort reality and suppress dissenting voices.

The group, led by Nnamdi Kanu, accused the government of hypocrisy, alleging a history of violence against unarmed civilians, particularly in Nigeria’s South-East region. IPOB argued that it is unjust for a state it claims has used force against peaceful protesters to define or label others as terrorists.

The statement referenced past incidents, including crackdowns on protests and the continued detention of Kanu, describing them as evidence of systemic oppression.

IPOB further maintained that it is not a terrorist organisation but a peaceful movement advocating for self-determination. The group insisted that no Igbo individual is a sponsor of terrorism and described the government’s actions as an attempt to instill fear and spread misinformation internationally.

Reaffirming its stance, IPOB stated that its agitation for justice, dignity, and self-determination remains “non-negotiable,” adding that what it called propaganda and demonisation would not deter its cause.
