The leadership of the Labour Party has warned party members, supporters, and aspirants against obtaining nomination forms from embattled former National Chairman, Julius Abure.

The party described any nomination form issued by Abure or his associates as “worthless paper.”

In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, the Labour Party accused Abure of impersonation and attempting to deceive unsuspecting aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Asogwa, the party was compelled to react following the circulation of pictures on social media allegedly showing Abure presenting nomination forms to some individuals in Abia State.

The statement read in part:

“Let it be stated clearly and unequivocally that Nenadi Usman is the National Chairman of the Labour Party, and all legitimate nomination forms for every elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections can only be obtained through the official National Secretariat of the party located in Utako, Abuja.”

The party further warned that any form obtained from Abure or any unauthorized source would not be recognized.

“Consequently, any so-called Labour Party nomination form obtained from Julius Abure or any other unauthorised source is nothing but worthless paper being peddled by political fraudsters seeking to deceive unsuspecting persons,” the statement added.

The party also questioned why Abure’s alleged activities were concentrated in Abia State, insisting that Governor Alex Otti would not succumb to what it described as “blackmail, intimidation or street-corner political theatrics.”

Labour Party further alleged that Abure’s continued claim to the office of national chairman amounts to criminal impersonation.

“Julius Abure’s continued impersonation of the office of the National Chairman of the Labour Party remains a criminal offence of serious legal consequence that has reached an intolerable height,” the statement said.

Efforts to reach Abure for a reaction were unsuccessful as his telephone line was reportedly unreachable at the time of filing the report.

The warning comes amid the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party following the dispute between Abure and the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee.

The crisis reportedly deepened after the Court of Appeal affirmed Usman’s leadership of the party, a ruling Abure rejected while insisting he would challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

Abure has maintained that party leadership disputes are internal matters beyond judicial interference and argued that the ruling contradicts established legal precedents.

The appellate court’s verdict reportedly upheld an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court recognising Usman as the legitimate leader of the party.

The situation further escalated after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognised the Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the leadership of the Labour Party.
