Spain Celebrates World Cup Triumph with Massive Victory Parade in Madrid (Video)

• Hundreds of thousands of jubilant fans lined the streets of Madrid as Spain’s World Cup-winning squad celebrated their historic triumph with an open-top bus parade following their victory over Argentina.

Spain’s World Cup-winning team received a hero’s welcome on Monday as hundreds of thousands of supporters filled the streets of Madrid to celebrate the country’s triumph with an open-top bus parade.

Head coach Luis de la Fuente and his players returned to the Spanish capital earlier in the day before paying a courtesy visit to King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia at the Zarzuela Palace.

The squad then embarked on a victory parade through Madrid, making their way to the iconic Plaza de Cibeles, where fans had gathered since morning to welcome the new world champions.

The celebrations followed Spain’s dramatic victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, where Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time to secure the title for La Roja.

The team’s achievement was also recognised by the leaders of the tournament’s three co-hosting nations, with U.S. President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney all congratulating Spain after the final.

Following the final whistle, celebrations erupted across Spain, with thousands of supporters flooding streets, bars and public squares waving Spanish flags and wearing the national team’s colours.

Crowds packed Madrid’s Puerta del Sol and other major landmarks, singing, dancing and setting off flares as car horns echoed across the capital well into Monday morning.

“I’m very happy. I’ve slept three or four hours, but for the team, I’ll do whatever it takes,” 19-year-old Victor Álvarez said as celebrations continued.

The victory also marked a historic milestone for Spanish football, making Spain the first country to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup titles after the women’s team lifted the trophy in 2023.

“Honestly, it was very exciting. We preferred not to go to any bar or anything, to experience it at home, focused and very happy, very joyful,” 59-year-old civil servant Gema Rodero said.

However, the celebrations were overshadowed by tragedy after local authorities reported that a 13-year-old boy in Salamanca, northwest of Madrid, died when a fountain he had climbed with friends during the celebrations collapsed.
