- President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Osun State governor, saying the outcome of the poll demonstrates the confidence of the people and offers fresh assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the Osun State governorship election, describing the outcome as an assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
Tinubu made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.
The President said he personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his re-election and noted that the result reflected the confidence the people of Osun State had placed in the governor.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.
The President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
He polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.
The victory secured Adeleke a second term in office after he was first elected governor in 2022 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He subsequently defected to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke Endorses Tinubu for 2027
Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke thanked President Tinubu for calling to congratulate him on his victory.
The governor also reaffirmed his endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing the President as a son of Osun State.
The development marks a notable post-election exchange between the two leaders after a fiercely contested governorship election in which Adeleke successfully secured another term in office.
