Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked reactions online after a light-hearted exchange with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in which the singer jokingly declared that he had “beat” the minister’s side.
The exchange occurred on Thursday when Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike in Abuja following his victory in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
In a video shared on Instagram by @OfficialPrinceNwauzor on Friday, Davido, dressed in brown traditional attire, was seen standing before Wike and repeatedly declaring, “I won. I beat you guys.”
Wike, who was seated and dressed in a white shirt, responded with a smile, saying, “No, no.”
Davido, however, insisted on his claim, saying, “I won! I beat you.”
“You beat us?” Wike asked.
“I beat you,” the singer replied.
The playful exchange drew laughter from those present, with background voices heard saying, “I beg o.”

The banter ended with Davido prostrating before Wike before moving closer to hug the minister, prompting cheers, clapping and more laughter from people in the room.
The video has generated reactions online, particularly because of the political undertones surrounding the recent Osun governorship election.
Many social media users linked Davido’s comments to the election result, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, secured re-election after defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, compared with Oyebamiji’s 11.
Before the election, Davido had actively campaigned for his uncle and repeatedly criticised the ruling APC over what he described as concerns about the use of federal might and the rule of law.
He also publicly declared that he would never join the APC and appealed to former US President Donald Trump to pay attention to the Osun election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the electoral process.
Following the election, however, Wike said Adeleke won because President Bola Tinubu allowed the election to be free and fair.
Wike dismissed claims that the Federal Government manipulated the poll, arguing that the democratic process was allowed to take its course.
“The President called him… congratulating him (Adeleke). What does it tell you? If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!” Wike said.
“When you say force of the federal government… ask those who have survived it, though—people like me who survived federal might. It’s not by saying ‘they say, they say.’ It’s not true,” he added.
The light-hearted encounter between Davido and Wike has since continued to attract attention online, with reactions ranging from amusement over the singer’s playful remarks to discussions about his cordial interaction with a political figure he had previously criticised.
