American streamer and content creator IShowSpeed delivered a live performance of his hit song, “Champions,” during the closing ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday in New York.

The internet personality, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., took centre stage at the New York New Jersey Stadium before thousands of fans as Spain faced defending champions Argentina in the tournament’s showpiece final.

Dressed in a white suit, IShowSpeed performed alongside a large troupe of backup dancers dressed in colourful tracksuits. The high-energy performance featured marching drummers, synchronised choreography, massive pitch-wide visual projections, pyrotechnics, smoke effects and aerial displays.

Videos of the performance quickly spread across social media, with many fans describing it as a defining moment in the streamer’s transition from football content creator to music performer.

The appearance came weeks after IShowSpeed released “World Cup (Champions),” a self-proclaimed unofficial World Cup anthem. The music video attracted more than 3.3 million views within 24 hours of its release on YouTube and sparked online debate over whether FIFA should adopt it as the tournament’s official song.

The streamer also tagged FIFA on social media, urging the football governing body to make the song the official World Cup anthem. FIFA’s verified account responded, “We will be in touch,” prompting widespread speculation among fans.

Although FIFA ultimately retained “Goals” by Lisa, Anitta and Nigerian singer Rema as the tournament’s official soundtrack, IShowSpeed’s performance of “Champions” during the World Cup final closing ceremony marked one of the biggest moments of his entertainment career.
