The 2026/27 Premier League season will start on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The opening match will be played at the Emirates Stadium, where defending champions Arsenal will host newly promoted Coventry City.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm UK time, which is also 8pm Nigerian time.

Why is the Premier League starting later?

The Premier League said the 2026/27 season is starting one week later than usual because of the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, which ended on July 19, 2026.

This gives clubs and players more time to recover before the new league campaign begins.
