Why Peter Obi Will Be a One-Term President if Elected in 2027 — Kwankwaso

• Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed why Peter Obi would serve only one-term if elected president in 2027.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, signed a written agreement committing to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Kwankwaso said the agreement was part of the party’s power-sharing arrangement, which provides that the presidency will return to the North after Obi’s single tenure from 2027 to 2031.

Kwankwaso said he believes Obi will honour the agreement, describing both leaders as “gentlemen” with a shared commitment to national unity.

He revealed that separate agreements were signed by the party and by both candidates, adding that the understanding was clearly documented.

According to him, the decision to accept the vice-presidential slot was based on the consensus that the South should hold the presidency for only one term before power rotates back to the North.

Kwankwaso also noted that while the party is currently focused on winning the 2027 presidential election, it already has medium and long-term political plans.

Peter Obi had earlier declared that he would serve only one term if elected, saying the decision was necessary to promote political stability and strengthen national unity.
