Governor Fubara Locked Out of Rivers State Assembly

Governor Siminalayi Fubara was locked out of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday after security personnel shut the gates, citing a lack of formal communication, though Fubara insisted he had informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule.

The incident comes amid rising political tension as Fubara moves to implement a Supreme Court ruling and has directed the state electoral commission to conduct fresh local government elections on August 9, 2025.

A standoff occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday when Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrived, only to find the entrance gate locked by security personnel.

Eyewitnesses observed that the security operatives shut the gates as soon as the governor’s convoy reached the complex, preventing his entry.

Officials cited the absence of formal communication between the governor and the Assembly as the reason for the action.

However, Fubara insisted he had informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule through a letter and had also attempted to reach him by phone since Tuesday.
