BREAKING: Atiku Raises Alarm Over Fresh Plot to Stop ADC From Contesting 2027 Election

• Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged a fresh plot to prevent the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from participating in the 2027 general election.

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over what he described as a fresh plot by unnamed political forces to prevent his party from participating in the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed he had received credible information suggesting that political and legal manoeuvres were being coordinated to keep the ADC off the ballot.

According to him, the alleged move is part of a broader effort to weaken the opposition and deny Nigerians the opportunity to freely choose their next president.

“We are fully aware of their plots. While they seek to sow confusion within the opposition, we know their real target is the ADC because it represents the most credible alternative,” Atiku said.

The former vice president warned that no government has the constitutional power to decide which political parties Nigerians are allowed to vote for, stressing that the sovereignty of the country belongs to the people.

“You may conspire, but you will not succeed. If the APC is truly confident in its popularity, why is it so terrified of the ADC?” he asked.

Atiku further alleged that there is a growing pattern of using institutions, court processes and administrative actions to undermine opposition parties and figures.

He accused the ruling establishment of being more focused on political battles than addressing the economic hardship, insecurity and rising unemployment facing Nigerians.

According to him, democracy should be decided at the ballot box and not through political engineering or judicial manipulation.

“The proper response to a popular political movement is not suppression. It is to present superior ideas before the electorate,” he said.

The ADC flagbearer also called on the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organisations and the international community to remain vigilant against any action capable of undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.

Ending his statement on a defiant note, Atiku declared:

“The desire for change cannot be outlawed. Hope cannot be deregistered. Democracy cannot be subverted by administrative fiat. The will of the Nigerian people will prevail over every conspiracy.”
