The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, has ordered a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the state.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, the police commissioner directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict enforcement of the ban, warning that anyone found engaging in tyre burning would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.

Mohammed explained that the ban was necessary to safeguard critical government and private infrastructure from damage and defacement, curb environmental pollution, and ensure the free flow of traffic as well as public safety during the festive period.
